Dr. Antony (Tony) Harwood

Biography

 Dr. Antony Harwood (Tony) is an economic geologist with over 30 years of experience in the mining industry. Tony graduated from the University of Wales, Cardiff, in the UK with a BSc (Hons) cum laude and a PhD degree in Economic Geology. His career focus has been on exploration, mine development and mining in Africa, working primarily for major and junior mining companies as a principle or as a consultant although he has worked all over the world.

 Tony is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Montero Mining and Exploration (TSX-V) with a focus on Africa and projects in Namibia, Tanzania and South Africa which he listed on the TSX in 2010.  In 2009 as the Executive Chairman he listed Universal Coal PLC on the ASX raising $20 million. Prior to this in 2006 he was the President and CEO of Africo Resources, listed this on the TSX raising $20 million and subsequently attracting $124 million equity capital during his tenure. Between 1998 and 2006 Tony was Vice President Global Generative Exploration for Placer Dome Inc., then one of 5 major global gold mining companies and now Barrick Gold. Tony was instrumental in the acquisition of 50% of the South Deep mine in South Africa from Western Areas for $250 million, 100% of the North Mara Mine in Tanzania and the discovery of over 17Moz of PGM at the Sedibelo project in South Africa.

 Currently, Tony serves as a non-executive Director for East Africa Metals Inc. and Tesoro Minerals Corp., he was formerly a non-executive Director of Adamus Resources, Endeavour Mining Corp., Auryx Gold Corp, African Gold Groupand Lappland Goldminers AG. Tony also provides corporate advisory services.

 In 2008 Africo Resources the company won a “Special Award” at the Mines and Money Conference - London for its outstanding and innovative sustainability work with local communities in the DRC.

 Tony was founder of Harwood International, a geological consulting company, which he operated for 10 years and prior to this he held the position of lecturer in Economic Geology at Cardiff University, UK and Natal University, Durban, South Africa.

Chris Griffith | B Eng (Mining) Hons, Pr Eng, 53

 Chris has served as CEO of Anglo American Platinum since September 2012. He was previously CEO of Kumba Iron Ore from 2008 and 2012 and prior to this, served as Anglo American Platinum’s head of operations for joint ventures. Chris has been with the Group for over 25 years, joining Anglo American Platinum where he progressed from shift supervisor to one of the youngest general managers in the company at that time.

Mr Jenkins is a mining industry professional with 28 years of industry experience including 24 years as an extraction metallurgist. During his career Mr Jenkins has held various operational leadership, business development and executive roles in South Africa and Australia and across a broad spectrum of companies ranging from larger companies such as Vale, AMCOAL and JCI through to several junior companies.

Mr Jenkins currently serves on the boards of Stonewall Mining and its subsidiaries

Mr Mohale ended a distinguished term as Vice President Upstream and Chairman of Shell South Africa (Pty) Limited at the end of June.

Mr Mohale, who originally studied to be a medical doctor, has had a distinguished career at the helm and in leadership roles of several major South African and multinational companies; including Otis Elevators, South African Airways, Sanlam, Limited, and Drake & Scull Integrated Facilities Management.  He currently serves on the Boards of Swiss Re Africa (12 years); Hollard Insurance (11 years); Rand Merchant Bank & Oakhurst Insurance (Chairman).  Mr Mohale has an impressive track record of building successful companies, delivering results and making significant advances in transformation in the companies he has been involved in.  He has been a vocal courageous and active proponent of transformation since the 1980s, and played a leadership role in the Black Management Forum (BMF) for over 33 years.

Awarded Bonang was conferred with an Honorary Professorship in Marketing Management by the University of Pretoria, where he serves on their Advisory Council. 2012 IPM CEO of the Year.  Received the PRESIDENTIAL AWARDfor his “Servanthood in South African Industry & the Economic Empowerment of Previously Disadvantaged Individuals” 2001.

 Tebello Chabana is senior executive public affairs and transformation at the Minerals Council of South Africa. He is an admitted attorney having spent the earlier part of his career focusing on labour and commercial law. He has a career spanning more than 20 years in the mining industry with experience in social development, public relations, mining policy and advocacy.

He started his career at Deneys Reitz Attorneys and was admitted as an attorney in July 1998. At Anglo American from 1998-2015 he held the positions of legal adviser corporate and commercial law, senior divisional legal adviser: labour law; was personal assistant to the chief executive of Anglo American and vice president regulatory affairs.

From 2007-2011 he was executive head public affairs at Kumba Iron Ore and headed Public Affairs South Africa from 2011-2015. He has dealt with delicate issues such as the negotiation of BEE policy and targets with various regulators and stakeholders.

His mining policy and regulatory experience traverses many commodities, local and foreign mining jurisdictions. He has successfully managed public and stakeholder relations during high profile industry level negotiations and litigation processes.  He prides himself on seeking win-win sustainable solutions to mining industry challenges.

Nick Holland has been CEO of Gold Fields – the South African-based gold miner – since 2008. Prior to that he was CFO of the company for 10 years. Under Nick the company has introduced its vision of “Being the global leader in sustainable gold mining” and has made significant strides in becoming a truly global mining company with operating mines and projects in six countries.

 Before joining Gold Fields Nick held senior position in other South Africa mining companies, including Impala Platinum and Gencor. He joined the mining industry in 1990 from accounting firm Deloitte where he spent the first 11 years of his professional career after graduating with a B.Com and B.Acc from Wits University in Johannesburg. Nick matriculated at King Edwards VII School, also in Johannesburg.
