Bernard is a Partner at To-The-Point Growth Specialists as well as a partner in THINKspiration, he serves as non-executive director on the boards of Impala, Zimplats, Eqstra and African Rainbow Minerals Limited. Previous roles include Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Village Main Reef Limited and CEO of Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited. He is the Chairman of the annual Joburg Indaba as well as Vice-President of the AHi. He is Chairman and Managing partner of MMC.

Themba joined Kumba on 1 September 2016. Prior to that he was the CEO for Anglo American’s thermal coal business in South Africa, as well as in the USA and Australia. He served as managing director for Huntsman Tioxide in South Africa until 2007 when he was appointed COO of Richards Bay Minerals, a joint venture between Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton. He was seconded in 2011 to Rio Tinto’s Australian coal business, before taking up the role of regional manager for the Americas in 2012.

James Campbell is Managing Director of Botswana Diamonds plc and has spent over thirty years in the diamond industry in a variety of roles.  Previous roles include Chief Executive Officer and President of Rockwell Diamonds Inc, Non-Executive Director of Stellar Diamonds plc, Vice President - New Business for Lucara Diamond Corp, Managing Director of African Diamonds plc and Executive Deputy Chairman of West African Diamonds plc.

 Prior to that James spent over twenty years at De Beers, with notable appointments including General Manager for Advanced Exploration and Resource Delivery and Nicky Oppenheimer's Personal Assistant.

 James holds a degree in Mining and Exploration Geology from the Royal School of Mines (Imperial College, London University) and an MBA with distinction from Durham University. James is a Fellow of the Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Materials, South African Institute of Mining & Metallurgy and Institute of Directors of South Africa.  He is also a Chartered Engineer (UK), Chartered Scientist (UK) and a Professional Natural Scientist (RSA). 

 As part of his social commitment to South Africa, James is Chairman of the Joburg Ballet, Chairman of the South African Ballet Theatre Trust and Acting Chairman of Common Purpose SA.

Professor Frederick T Cawood

Boris is a professional engineer with many years of investment management and operational experience. He has experience in a range of industries at senior executive levels, including private equity, mining, venture capital and construction. He commenced his career at Grinaker Concrete Construction and became a director in 1999.

Boris has extensive experience in challenging and innovative companies aimed at achieving optimal business outcomes. His strong business acumen, strategic ability and leadership skills have stood him in good stead when identifying key business drivers and unlocking the consequent return through the people and resources available. Boris is a future-focused business professional known to be able to identify and unlock business opportunity and profit potential. He bravely capitalises his astute strategic management style to ensure good business leadership, corprate alignment and success, where others might retreat – imperative for leading a business that operates in a hightly challenging environment. During his career Boris has been involved in the design, construction and operation of a number of mnes in sub-Saharan Africa. He has a passion for Africa and the great range of opportunities currently presented to the people of the continent.  His ability to identify potential, unlock business opprotunity and celebrate talent diversity adds significant value in a growing and competitive environment that is abundant with opportunity across the African business and mining landscapes.

 Boris graduated cum laude in BSc (Civil Engineering) from the University of Cape Town and holds an MBA from WITS Business School, University of Witwatersrand.He was nemed on the Dean’s merit list at both instituions. Boris is a Registered Professional Engineer with the South African Engineering Council and a member of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
