AMN - BOTSWANA: Giyani updating environmental plans

Giyani Metals Corp has received a formal response to its proposed environmental management plans (EMPs) from the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) in Botswana. The company is now updating the EMPs for resubmission.

The company’s CEO Robin Birchall said: "The completion of the first review process, within the forecasted time period, is a great testament to the professionalism and efficiency of the DEA in Botswana.

“The feedback from the DEA is constructive and we believe that the requested modifications will result in improved versions of our proposed EMPs.

“Our environmental consultants are updating all three EMPs with support from the Giyani team in Botswana and we expect to be able to resubmit in a matter of weeks.”

Last month the company engaged SRK Consulting to complete a Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) for the K.Hill manganese deposit.

The scope of the PEA will include geology, mining, processing, water management, infrastructure, environment, and financial modelling and will provide conclusions and recommendations for the DFS which is planned to start in Q3 2019.

WorleyParsons South Africa was also engaged to conduct a bulk sample characterisation test for the direct shipping ore (DSO) program from the K.Hill and Otse manganese deposits.

The scope of this testing will include sample collection criteria, lab testing and process flowsheet design.

Upon the completion of this engagement Giyani will have a more detailed understanding of the economics of the DSO program and the specifications of the various manganese products that can be produced from K.Hill and Otse.

Robin Birchall said: “The commencement of the PEA for K.Hill and the DSO test program are very important steps to kick start our operational program for 2019.

“We will have a very active year with multiple work streams developing in parallel as we work towards our ultimate goal of producing high purity electrolytic manganese metal (EMM) for the battery electric vehicle market.”
