Additional 'blind' pegmatite extensions under cover have been discovered by IronRidge Resources at the Ewoyaa Lithium Project in Ghana. These were revealed by a recent reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign.
The Central Main Pegmatite zone has been extended an additional 400 metres and remains open to the north.
The pegmatite extension was not recognised in the early mapping, trenching and pitting programs and has no obvious surface expression. It occurs within a broad flat valley with no coincident topographic feature and no obvious pegmatitic float material due to recent sediment cover and subsistence farming.
This is significant as it demonstrates the potential to discover new pegmatites within topographic lows where previously topographic highs have been prioritised, and it has the potential to add significant tonnage to the overall pegmatite drilled to date.
IronRidge has completed the first phase RC drilling program for a total of 8000 metres, which included an additional 1000 metres completed to test the newly discovered pegmatite extension.
There has been a delay in assay results from the first batch of drilling at Ewoyaa but the company expects to receive these shortly.
IronRidge chief geologist Len Kolff said: "Drilling has identified a new pegmatite extension to the central Main Zone with an additional 400 metres strike length of pegmatite drilled and still open to the north, that has no obvious surface expression and occurs within a valley below recent sediment cover."
"This is significant as it increases the prospectivity of the whole project area with the potential of discovering additional 'blind' pegmatites without coincident hills nor obvious surface expression."
The company has recently appointed Iwan Williams as exploration manager for Ghana. He has extensive African experience acquired over 20 years, including studies expertise and previous pegmatites experience.
His experience spans a broad suite of commodities including iron, manganese, gold, porphyry copper, nickel, chromite and PGM's. He has participated in the delivery of multiple project studies including resource, mine design criteria, baseline environmental and social studies and metallurgical test-work programs.
Len Kolff said "We are pleased to have attracted the calibre of Iwan Williams as our Ghana exploration manager to oversee the ongoing exploration programs with our existing Ghanaian team, who has extensive African and studies experience as well as previous pegmatite experience."
Ironridge's regional soil sampling and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is progressing steadily with 12,460 soil samples collected to date across the Cape Coast Lithium Project portfolio.
LIBS Lithium analysis alongside multi-element pXRF analysis is ongoing at the company's dedicated lab in Mankessim.
IronRidge Resources is an AIM-listed mineral exploration company with frontier assets in Australia and West Africa. As well as Ghana, it has two province scale projects in Gabon, and promising and advanced titanium and bauxite projects in Queensland, Australia.
