AMN - MOROCCO: Maya prepares for Zgounder expansion

Maya Gold & Silver Inc is advancing infrastructure development for the expansion of Zgounder Silver Mine in the Republic of Morocco. The company is using existing funds for this work, which will include a new tailings facility.

Other highlights include paving access roads to enable tracking of mineralised material from the East zone to the mill for a specific bulk sample and grade/dilution assessment; development of a new ramp reaching the 1950 level; and a drone survey to enable detailed designs.

"We are developing our bigger-scale scenario at Zgounder with the construction of critical infrastructures," said Maya's chairman and CEO Noureddine Mokaddem.

"Our drilling program at surface with RC and diamond drilling accompanied by the underground drilling shows support in our belief that Zgounder can be a bigger operation and produce more silver.

"The road to success is paved with pitfalls and we are establishing solid bases to move forward either by financing or our own funds.

"Our surface diamond drill holes to the east are delivering positive visible results and we are confirming important additional high-grade mineralisation," he said.

The company has this month received significant diamond and RC drill results from an ongoing drill program at Zgounder, including 14 metres at 949 g/t silver from 109 metres in a diamond hole and 6 metres at 3,547 g/t from 113 metres in an RC hole.

Results have been received from three diamond holes totalling 833.8 metres out of a program of seven holes for 1,774.1 metres and four RC holes for 516 metres drilled from surface out of 32 holes totalling 3,551 metres.

Other results include:

• 7 metres at 1,278.8 g/t from 165.5 metres in a diamond hole;

• 2.5 metres at 1,178.1 g/t from 213 metres in a diamond hole; and

• 11 metres at 341.46 g/t from 41 metres in an RC hole.

The silver mineralisation occurs in veinlets filled by quartz cement and sulphide mineralisation consisting of sphalerite, galena and pyrite encountered in an altered sandstone and at the contact with the rhyolite unit.

The ongoing drilling program focused on the eastern zone which corresponds to a virgin zone without underground workings. This zone covers an area of 200 x 150 metres that includes several mineralised envelopes mostly oriented E-W with vertical extent mineralisation at 185 metres below the surface intersected recently.

"We are more than satisfied with these positive results of the ongoing drilling program on the eastern zone never exploited before. The presence of the mineralisation near the surface confirmed by the trench results and mineralisation at depth for at least 185 metres below the surface convince us to do more works to get the full extent of this virgin zone," said Noureddine Mokaddem.

The ongoing diamond drill program is designed to get more details on the continuity of the mineralised envelopes that should increase the quality and the confidence in the mineral resources estimate.
