In this week’s Mining Weekly, The African Mining Network June speaker, Eunomix CEO Claude Bassaic’s presentation is reported on page 18, titled Unintended Consequences.

The article says South African minerals policy had changed the market in inefficient ways, exacerbated the impact of external factors such as volatile commodity prices and failed to meet its primary objectives.

Future of mining in Africa

Meanwhile, also turn to pages 22 and 24 where African Mining Chairperson Yolanda Torrisi, talks about the future of mining on the African continent.

In an article titled Greater input from Europe and North America will boost African mining, Yolanda Torrisi explains that greater input is needed from Europe and North America to boost mining endeavours in Africa. While China is delivering Africa’s foremost source of investment for mining projects and infrastructure development, it is important for Africa not to have all its eggs in one basket.

Europe, North America and Australia have plenty to offer Africa, especially in terms of mining expertise, technical support and investment.
